In the latest RPI rankings from the Utah High School Activities Association, Carbon is holding steady at No. 5, Emery has made a move to No. 10. The season is winding down with the first round of the state playoffs starting on May 7. The RPI will be adjusted every day until the end of the regular season when it will be used for seeding in the tournament.

The RPI is a mathematical equation that ranks teams by the strength of their schedule and is based on three different parameters: the team winning percentage, their opponents winning percentage, and their opponents opponents winning percentage. The equation gives each team a percentage and then those numbers are used to rank each team throughout the season. With the playoffs coming up in May, teams can get an idea as to whom they may be playing when the time comes.

Juab and Canyon View land at No. 1 and No. 2. Grantsville, American Leadership Academy, and Carbon round out the top five.

The last time the Carbon Dinos were on the field was Monday, April 4, when they traveled to Vernal to take on the 5A Uintah Utes, with Uintah getting the better of the Dinos 6-2. They did have a doubleheader scheduled for April 12 with Canyon View in Cedar City, but due to the weather, they have moved the games to Thursday. The Dinos did take to the field Thursday in Price as they welcomed in 5A Alta.

The Emery Spartans entered the top 10 in the latest RPI no doubt due to their doubleheader sweep of the Richfield Wildcats on Monday. The Spartans were scheduled to face the Union Cougars in Castle Dale on Tuesday, that game was postponed until May 5. They will however be back on the field on Wednesday, when they travel to Richfield, looking for the season sweep.
