Dallyn Oneil threw five innings of scoreless baseball on Wednesday at the Carbon Field as the Dinos made quick work of the 5A Alta Hawks 12-0. The offense was clicking for Carbon as well with seven Dinos connecting for nine hits in the contest.
Oneil was on from the beginning, facing the minimum amount of batters through the first three innings. Oneil gave up his first hit, a triple in the fourth, but the Carbon defense had his back allowing him to get the complete game surrendering just two hits while striking out four.
Offensively the Dinos would get it started in the first when Rylan Hart and Keaton Rich would score on errors. With two outs in the inning, Chet Anderson stepped up to the plate and sent one deep over the center field wall for a two-run shot that brought Jordan Fossat home.
Things got going again for the Dinos in the third when Fossat drove Rich home with a single and then scoring wouldn’t stop until Peyton Molinar added the sixth run of the inning for Carbon on an error on the Alta catcher Kalem Thatcher. Colton Lowe, who ended the game with a pair of hits with two runs and added an RBI, smashed a home run over the right field wall.
Anderson ended the day with two hits, two runs and three RBI’s, Jacob Vasquez also had a three RBI day with one hit.
The Dinos sit at 8-6 now with a 3-0 record in region play. In the latest RPI rankings compiled by the Utah High School Activities Association, The Dinos own the No.5 spot in 3A.
Carbon heads back to the field and region play Thursday when they travel to Cedar City for a double header with Canyon View, then they will be in Castle Dale for a double header with Emery.
The Dinos will be back home on the high school field on April 22 when they will welcome in the Spartans to wrap up their regular season schedule.
