The Dinos welcomed the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs to the Price City tennis courts Thursday. Getting back on the court for the first time since the April 2, the Dinos were ready, winning all but one match in straight sets, but claiming victory in that match and defeating Gunnison 5-0.

Carbon is 1-3 so far this season, but the tennis regular season is a long one, running from March 10 until May 5. The region tournament begins on May 13 and the state tournament will be the following week May 20-21.

Derrick Jorgensen , Camden Jones and Branden Scovill all won their singles matches in straight sets. This trio has gotten stronger as the season progresses with Jorgensen being ranked No. 24 in the 3A singles RPI.

The most exciting match of the day came in first doubles, Alex Callahan and Zac Gregersen went to three sets to get a victory, even going to a first set tie-break. The first set was 7-6 with the Carbon duo winning the tie-break 7-4. They finished off their opponent 6-2 and 7-5. Both Carbon doubles teams are ranked in the 3A RPI with the team of Callahan and Branden Scovill ranked at No. 11 and the team for Gregersen and Garrett Bryner sitting in the No. 25 spot. At this meet, Bryner and Nathan Baudin joined forces to win their match in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-2.

Carbon heads on the road on Friday to play in the Grantsville tournament where they will face teams from Grantsville, Stansbury, Tooele and Juab.

They head back to the Price City court on April 21 as they will welcome in San Juan. Match time is set for 3:30.
