earth-day

The Green Team of Carbon County is hosting an Earth Day Celebration at the Helper Homegrown Farm on 501 West 100 North in Helper on Friday, April 22 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Event Representative, Kristi Mingus to discuss all the event details.

“We have quite a few things going on, we have a lot of local businesses that are coming to teach us things they know about sustainability and in addition we will have soil health demos, a nature journaling activity, trivia, all sorts of fun things,” said Mingus. Each year Earth Day has a theme and this year’s theme is entitled Invest In Our Planet. There will be several informational booths at the event all geared around Earth Day.

One of the unique booths that will be available at the celebration features a solar telescope. “There is an organization called the Dark Sky Observers and Marc Bunnell who will be there with his solar telescope kind of runs that and they have events often to do observations of different features. I know on Earth Day they will be looking at the sun. But there is an organization of people locally who are really in to that, if you are interested,” said Mingus. It was only a few years ago that Helper was certified as a Dark Skies Community.
