It’s time to catch up with Elmo City Mayor James Winn, who took time from his busy schedule to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio about the city’s budget, annual cleanup day and looking for volunteer firefighters.

Part of the budgeting the city is looking at spending is giving Town Hall a minor facelift. “As far as the budget goes, we need to finish up the front part of our town building, we did some changes, took some rocks out, and we’re going to put in the budget to put some grass in there and probably some concrete too, just so we can make it look nicer in front of our Town Hall. Also, we have sand that we use to sand the roads during snowstorms and stuff we’re going to build a little shed to store that so it doesn’t get wasted. Then a few odds and ends, like a trailer to help get the lawnmowers around and haul stuff around town for the town employees,” said Mayor Winn. The new storing facility for the sand and the new trailer will both benefit the city and its residents.

Citizens in Elmo are urged to mark their calendars for the annual town cleanup taking place on May 1. “Our town cleanup will be May 1 through May 15 and we’re going to bring in some extra dumpsters, put at the dumpster site, so we can get people to clean up their yards and different things like that. With that, we’re hoping that people from other towns will respect that and not fill up our dumpsters so that we can get our people to fill those up and get things taken care of,” said Mayor Winn. This is a great opportunity for residents to start the spring cleaning of their yards and property.

The city is currently looking for men and women who would be interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter. “Our fire department, its just a transition thing, we had to through people moving away, that kind of thing; we’re looking for new firefighters. Our Fire Chief says he’s ready to take anybody who’s willing, they’ll train you and that kind of stuff,” said Mayor Winn. Individuals interested in becoming a firefighter are urged to contact Town Hall at (435) 653-2125.
