The United Way of Eastern Utah is happy to announce Pam Boyd as their new Director of the organization. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down to speak with her to get to know her as she spoke about the various programs offered through United Way of Eastern Utah.
“I’m brand new to the area so excited to be here. Brought here by family, my son met a local girl and they got married and live in Orangeville, so my husband and I did a kind of move to be closer to family thing, but I spent 35 years in Eagle, Colorado,” said Boyd. She is very excited to jump into the role as director and is looking forward to serving community members in Carbon, Emery, Grand, Daggett, Duchesne, Uintah and San Juan Counties.
She has been familiarizing herself with the various programs offered through United Way of Eastern Utah and the one that is close to her heart is the Souls2Soles Shoe Program as her father owned a shoe store growing up. “Souls2Soles is a program, you know what, if kids’ feet hurt, if you don’t have shoes that fit you, how are you going to learn spelling? How are you going to be able to have a good time at recess? You don’t think about it but think about the shoes on your feet right now and think about if they were pinching you or hurting you or they had holes in them, how would you function with your day? So Souls2Soles we collect shoes and we get referrals in from school counselors who say, you know this kid really needs a pair of shoes, we’ll get you a pair of shoes,” stated Boyd. This program is offered throughout the entire school year.
A huge event that is coming up for United Way is their annual Day of Caring which takes place during the month of September. “What I’d love to do right now, especially since I’m new, I’d love for people to contact me about you know it would be great if you had volunteers for a day to do this project at our service organization, at our community, for seniors, I don’t really know what people want done yet and I can not wait to hear,” stated Boyd. Again, she is looking forward to working with members of the community.
