This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Bruin Point Elementary where Principal Connie Todachinnie took time to speak over the telephone about the school’s field trip and end of school testing.

“Yes, the kids know that the end of the year is coming up, they’re a little antsy but weather has not helped, you know Utah can’t tell if its summer or winter. So the kids have been a little bit antsy but things are going really well. We’re seeing some great gains not just academically but with our kids socially. We’re seeing a lot more kindness and empathy in our school and it’s beautiful,” stated Principal Todachinnie. Behavior problems have decreased and students are getting along very well with one another.

The entire school recently went on a field trip to the zoo and had a great time. “We like to do our field trips in April so we’re not dealing with the heat but this was the exact opposite, we got rained and snowed on. But it was okay, it lasted for about 45 minutes, we dried off within a half-hour and the kids had a ton of fun,” said Principal Todachinnie. The students enjoyed the outing and being able to spend time with each other outside of school.

With the end of the school year quickly approaching, it brings on end of the year testing for students. “They’re actually starting on Tuesday. So this end-of-the-year testing is the state testing for rise, so that will be third, fourth and fifth grade that will start on Tuesday. That’s Math, English, Language Arts, and for fourth and fifth grade it’s science, and for fifth grade they have writing, so it’s pretty intense,” explained Principal Todachinnie. Parents are strongly encouraged to make sure their students attend school during testing days.
