
The Lady Spartans played in their second game of a back-to-back on Wednesday, and just like the contest Tuesday with Canyon View, their game with the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs was another close one. Using a big seventh inning Emery took the win at home 15-11.
Brynlei Luke owned the day for Emery as a one-woman wrecking crew. Luke went 3-5 from the plate with two home runs driving in five RBI’s and scoring three.
Emery started out putting up three runs in the first two innings and had held Gunnison scoreless until the top of of the third when Gunnison Valley tied up the game at three.
After a quiet inning number four, the Bulldogs put up three more only to have it answered by the Spartans and three runs of their own. The back and forth continued into the seventh. Gunnison broke that tie with four runs in the top of the of the inning taking an 11-7 lead.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh, Emery needed five runs for the win, what followed was a huge offensive explosion for eight runs giving The Lady Spartans the victory.
Cambrie Jensen enjoyed her day at the plate going 2-5 with three RBI’s and added one run. Brooklyn Ekker got in on the fun offensively as well with a 4-5 day including three runs scored and two RBI’s.
Madisyn Childs got the start on the mound putting in 6.2 innings of work giving up seven earned on nine hits and also struck out seven. Jensen came in to close out the game striking out one.
The Spartans will now get a rest until next week. On Tuesday, they travel to Richfield to take on the Wildcats in a region match-up. In late March, Emery took the first meeting 10-0.
Then next Thursday, they will welcome in North Sanpete for Senior Day. Game time is set for 3:30.
