Rose Oliveto Craven, the last of the magnificent seven from the Oliveto clan, has left for the golf course in heaven on April 21, 2022.

Rose was born in Sunnyside, Utah on November 15, 1929, being the youngest of seven children of Louis and Elena (Mele) Oliveto.

Rose met her late husband, John Arthur Craven, when she was playing fastpitch softball for Mitchell’s Mummies. She was affectionately called Teardrop after she hit a home run to win a game, and when she rounded third for home, promptly sat on home plate and cried. She and John met when she went to get a drink at the water fountain between innings. They were married June 21, 1950 in the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. They had three children, Arthur John (Art), Louis Kenneth (Lou) (deceased) and Jayceen Marie. John passed in 2006 and Louis in 2007.

Rose attended Notre Dame School and Carbon College in Price. Rose played the piano for the Notre Dame Operettas and did so until she graduated high school. When Rose was in the 10th grade, Father Butler asked if she would be willing to play for mass. She played for masses, weddings and funerals ever since.

Rose was active in many sports in her youth and stayed active until a couple years ago. In addition to softball, she loved to golf and had two holes in one. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and snowmobiling. Rose was involved with many civic organizations, the Jaycee’s with John, Soroptimist, BPW and many others.

Rose worked in the family store, Oliveto Furniture, as all the Oliveto children did. The store originally started in Sunnyside and was known as the Elephant Store. The family moved to Price in 1935 and established Oliveto furniture where it is still in operation today.

Survived by her children, Art (Vickie) Craven, Grand Junction, Colorado and Jayceen Craven Walker, Salt Lake City, Utah; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren: Cory Craven
