The Lady Dinos have sat atop the RPI since April 1 when the Utah High School Activities Association released their initial rankings. On Monday they faced a test against the South Summit Wildcats, the No. 3 team in 3A. Tied at 2-2 after the seventh, Carbon got their bats going, putting up nine runs with three of them coming from Stevie Oman’s three run shot, then holding on in the bottom of the inning to win 11-6.
Since the initial release of the rankings Carbon has gone 7-1 with their lone loss coming at the hands of Grand on April 21, the loss also marked the only region loss on the Dinos schedule.
Monday’s outing was a defensive duel with Carbon putting up a single run in the second inning. In the third South Summit put two runs on the board taking a lead that would only last till the top of the fifth when the Dinos would tie it up once again.
The eighth inning was exciting from beginning to end with the Lady Dinos finding a way to put nine runs on the score board. It was almost like an assembly line with Brielle Sandoval getting a two-run double adding to the onslaught and Oman’s home run capping off the inning. Haven Byerly finished off her day on the mound in the bottom of the eighth, closing out the Wildcats with the complete game win, giving up two earned on five hits while striking out 12.
Tenley Madsen went 2-5 from the plate collecting a couple of RBI’s. Maddix Whiteside had a double, going 3-4 and driving in a run and Makayla Scovill was 3-5 and had an RBI in the big win for the Dinos.
Coming up on Wednesday the Dinos welcome the Providence Hall Patriots to Price. Game time is set for 3:30 at the Carbon County Softball Complex at the fairgrounds.
