The Utah Foster Care agency will be hosting a Lunch & Learn event on Wednesday, May 11 at 12:00 pm at their office located at 475 West Price River Drive. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Utah Foster Care Lead Consultant, Kobi Prettyman to discuss all the details.

“So Utah Foster Care primary role in the community is to locate families that are interested in foster care, provide them the education and training that they need to feel like they can adequately care for children, and then to provide support ongoing after we have groups and training, things like that, that allow them to keep learning skills and to make connections with other foster families so that they can be supported in this process,” said Prettyman. The Utah Foster Care program is always in need of families to help house and care for children in the local area.

The Lunch & Learn event is a great opportunity for interested individuals/families to get answers to any and all questions one may have about becoming a foster parent. Prettyman explains what will be covered during the event, “Cover the process, what it takes to become licensed. It may be a lot easier than some people think but there is some paperwork and some training requirements and things like that, that occur, so we’re going to talk about that. Then just talk about experiences, what its like to have a child in your home, what its like to work with the Division of Child and Family Services, what its like to work with parents of the children who are in foster care because most of the time the goal is to return the children home with their parents,” said Prettyman. There will be current and former foster parents available at the luncheon to answer any and all questions one may have about becoming a foster parent.

The organizers are asking that anyone interested in attending the Lunch & Learn event to please RSVP by May 9. “So they can call 636-0210 or they can email me at kobi.prettyman@utahfostercare.org They can always find out some general information on our website at and that’s the same https://utahfostercare.org/ If they fill out the forms on the website and want more information than that sends it right to me to contact them and so we can get information to them that way too. But we would love to see people in person and answer their questions and just have a great discussion,” stated Prettyman.

The Utah Foster Care office in Price serves the communities in Carbon, Emery, Daggett, Duchesne, Uintah, Grand and San Juan counties. The need for foster parents in these areas is great to help, heal and enrich the lives of abused or neglected children.
