The Lady Dinos enter the last two weeks of the season still holding the No.1 ranking in the 3A RPI. Coming off a big road win in Kamas over South Summit on Monday, Carbon welcomed the Providence Hall Patriots to Price Wednesday earning the 17-2 win in four innings.
Carbon had been cruising along on a nine game winning streak until they ran into the Grand County Red Devils last Thursday, the win over South Summit hopefully gave them the spark they need to go into the post-season.
The Patriots would put two runs on the board in the top of the first and that would be all that Tenley Madsen on the mound for Carbon, plus the stingy Dino defense would give them. Madsen got the complete game win, giving up two earned on five hits striking out one.
The rest of the game it was all about the Dinos on the base paths. In the bottom of the first inning Carbon would put four runs on the board starting when Makayla Scovill would send a single to left that brought home Brielle Sandoval.
The Carbon bats would go silent until the bottom of the third inning when a Stevie Oman sacrifice fly to center brought Scovill home increasing the Dino lead to 5-0.
It was the bottom of the fourth inning when the Carbon bats came to life putting up 12 runs. Picking up single runs here and there, then the Lady Dinos would start scoring in bunches, starting when Madsen singled to left bringing Sandoval home. Gianna Bruno and Scovill would both score on errors. Gabrielle Vasquez came up after two batters and a pitching change, and sent a double to left field which brought home Oman and Haven Byerly. Bruno came up again later in the inning hitting a single to left field, scoring Vasquez and Mollie Horsley putting the score at 17-2, ending the game in four innings without Carbon getting a single out in the fourth.
Oman had a game, going 2-2 with three RBI’s and scored two runs. Bruno ended the day 1-2 with a pair of RBI’s and two runs scored, and Madsen helped her own cause, 1-3 with a run scored and a couple of RBI’s.
The Dinos are now 18-4 over all and 5-1 in Region 12 play and have three games remaining on their schedule two of which are region contests against Canyon View.
Carbon gets started on the road Thursday in Cedar City for Canyon View. They will welcome Union to the Carbon County Softball Complex at the fairgrounds on Tuesday and then wrap-up the season Wednesday when they will celebrate the seniors for the final regular season home game against Canyon View.
Times for the Union game Tuesday and the Canyon View game Wednesday are set for 3:30.
