Senior Madisyn Childs allowed just five hits across seven innings of shutout softball on Thursday in Castle Dale against North Sanpete. The Spartans were playing in their final regular season home contest so they took the time to honor the seniors on the team for Senior Day. After that it was all business as the Lady Spartans allowed no runs, and got one on the board for the 1-0 victory.

The Spartans will say goodbye to five seniors at the end of the season, Madisyn Childs, Cambrie Jensen , Taija Olsen, Brynlei Luke and Tylee Norton, but before then they’ve still got work to do.

This game was played as tightly as the final score indicated. Emery only scattered four hits throughout the game but made them count in the third inning, when Brooklynn Ekker came up hitting a triple to get on base, Aspen Taylor singled on a bunt scoring Ekker from third.

Emery tried to get something going again in the fourth with two on base but a double play on a bunt ended the possibility of any insurance runs. They were able to get another couple of base runners in the sixth, but left them stranded.

The way the defense was playing extra runs were not necessary, as North Sanpete was closed out three up and three down in the top of the seventh giving the Spartans the 1-0 win.

Before the RPI was removed the Emery Spartans had climbed to the No. 3 spot in 3A. With two more contests left we will wait and see where they will end up when the final rankings are released on May 6 when the state playoff bracket will be revealed.

Friday the Spartans will be back at it when they travel to Moab to take on Grand for the final time of the regular season. Back on March 24, these two teams met up with Emery coming out on top 15-4.

On Monday they will be back on the road as they travel to South Sevier, for the final game of the regular season.
