With just a few games left on the schedule, the Lady Dinos traveled to Cedar City to face the Canyon View Falcons in a region contest. Carbon uncharacteristically committed four errors in the game and struggled creating enough offense to overcome the Falcons, losing 11-5.

The Dinos headed to Cedar knowing that they had just three games left on their regular season schedule, two games with Canyon View and a meeting with Union sandwiched in between.  The regular season is set to end on May 5 for 3A.

The Dinos were the first team on the board putting up their first run in the top of the third when Makayla Scovill came up with the bases loaded and one out sending a single to center field bringing home Gianna Bruno. In the top of the fourth they had another opportunity, when Gabrielle Vasquez hit a single to left that allowed Haven Byerly and Brielle Sandoval to score, making it 3-0 Dinos headed to the bottom of the fourth. Canyon View came out in the bottom half of the inning taking the lead back 4-3.

The Dinos would score single runs in both the fifth and sixth inning, but every time Carbon got within striking distance the Falcons would put more runs on the board.

The Carbon defense had a rough outing giving up three runs on four errors as well as surrendering three home runs. Byerly got the start on the mound going 5.2 innings giving up 10 runs (five earned) on four hits while striking out 11. Kylan Sorenson finished out the contest giving up one run and one hit.

Offensively, Vasquez was 1-4 with a pair of RBI’s. Tenley Madsen went 1-3 with a home run and an RBI and Scovill and Stevie Oman both collected RBI’s in the loss.

Before the game the Dinos were at No.1 in the RPI rankings which have now been removed. They will be released again on May 6 when the state playoff bracket is revealed.

There are two games left for the Dinos both of which are at home.
