The Dino baseball squad is inching closer and closer to the end of the regular season, with the final game coming Monday against Canyon View. On Friday they wrapped up their season series with the Richfield Wildcats on the road. The Carbon bats were relatively quiet with the Dinos only able to collect two runs on two hits falling to the Wildcats 4-2.
The Dinos took care of their home field last Tuesday sweeping Richfield in their double-header in Price 11-1 in game one and 12-2 in the second game.
On Friday Carbon struggled at the plate, managing two hits that both came from the bat of Jacob Vasquez who went 2-3 with a pair of singles. The only runs that Carbon scored were off of walks in the fourth and seventh innings.
The Dinos could never get a rhythm on the offensive side of the plate and defensively Jacob Vasquez got the start and took the loss on the mound, putting in 4.2 innings of work, giving up three earned on four hits while striking out three. Jordan Fossat came in late, going 1.1 and giving up one earned and struck out two.
Carbon is sitting at 14-8 with a 9-2 region mark. The RPI rankings have been removed from view, but when last visible, Carbon owned the No. 3 spot, the loss against Richfield will sting a bit, but they can right the ship on Monday when they welcome Canyon View to Price for the final game of the regular season.
Canyon View holds a 15-8 record and an identical 9-2 region mark. They were ranked No.2 in the RPI, when it was last available. Going back to April 14, when these two teams met up for the first time this season, Carbon split the double-header winning the first game 7-4 but falling 8-5 in game two. The winner of Monday’s game will take the region title headed into the playoffs that will start on May 7.
The game Monday at Carbon High field is scheduled to begin at 3:30, with senior recognition taking place at 3:15.
