This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Castle Heights Elementary and Principal Wendy Fluckey took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss the end of year testing, archery team and field trips.

Some end of year testing has begun for a few grades as Principal Fluckey explains, “Well we actually started our state RISE testing last week, we started with our fifth grade, this week fourth and fifth grade, and then next week fifth, fourth and third grade doing that national testing for RISE. But then next week we also start kind of our end of the year school testing, where we access all kids in their reading and math scores.” The data from the end of year testing will assist school officials to look at gains, see improvements and where improvements can be made. Its very important that parents make sure their students get a good night’s rest during testing days and to make sure that their student attends school on those important testing days.

The school’s archery team is a solid, strong team and have done well at competitions thus far. “So our archery team last month went and competed in the state championship and we took first and third place with our two teams which is our fifth year in a row that our team has won the Utah State Championship and now we have the teams competing up north today and tomorrow in the Western National Tournament,” stated Principal Fluckey. The team have been busy with after-school practices for months and all of their hard work is now paying off.

With end-of-the-year testing also comes the fun field trips that mark an end to a successful school year.  “We have different field trips for the different grade levels planned. We got our kindergarten that’s going up to the aquarium in May. Our second grade is taking a trip to the Clark Planetarium. We’ve got our fifth graders that’s going up to the Salt Lake Bees game, third graders are going to Nine Mile Canyon. So we just have all sorts of fun things planned for the kids,” said Principal Fluckey. Details on each of the field trips will come home with students as the trips grow closer
