The Dino track and Field squad traveled to Delta to take part in the Delta Invitational on Saturday. Over 17 schools from across the state competed in the one-day event and at the end of the day the contingent from Carbon had a great showing with the ladies claiming the top spot and the boys finishing in third place.
Carbon earned a first place finish for the girls putting up 98 points, North Summit finished in second place with 87.25. Host team Delta, Manti and North Sanpete all rounded out the top five.
The girls got things started in the 2-2-4-8 sprint medley relay when the team of Lyndee Mower, Kinlee Lewis, Rebecca Swasey and Lindsie Fausett grabbed a second place finish turning in a time of 4:35.77. In the 4×100 relay Haylee Prescott, Eminie Elliot, Mower and Mia Crompton earned another second place spot with a time of 51.54.
In the 1600 meters Beverly Lancaster crossed the finish in a time of 5:43.71 coming in second.
For the boys it was a third place finish overall. Host team Delta grabbed first followed by Juab. The Dinos, Juan Diego and Milford made up the rest of the top five.
The boys relay team of Nathan Hobbs, Will Carmichael, Easton Humes and Braxton Ware finished in the top spot for the 2-2-4-8 relay with a time of 3:51.35. Humes would grab the second spot in the 400, crossing the finish at 52.30, and Kobe Cruz claimed second with at time of 4:44.50 in the 1600.
In the high jump, it was Traxton Jewkes taking the top spot for the Dinos and Bowden Robinson threw to a first place finish in the javelin.
Carbon will be in Provo on Friday and Saturday for the Brigham Young Invitational, this event will draw over 60 schools from Utah and surrounding states. The following week on the 10-11 of May they will travel to Cedar City for the Region 12 Championships hosted by Canyon View High School.
Carbon will be back at BYU the 20-21 as they wrap up the season at the 3A State Championship Track and Field Meet.
