Coming off a tough outing in Richfield, the Carbon Tennis team headed to Vernal last weekend for the Uintah Invitational facing five teams from across the state over two days. The Dinos dropped their opening round match with Morgan 4-1, but would go on to win their next three with Gunnison, Union and San Juan. The Dinos struggled with host team Uintah ending their weekend with a 3-2 record.
In the opening round against Morgan, Branden Scovill claimed the only win for Carbon 8-4 over Ben Poll.
The next round was against Gunnison Valley and the Dinos came away with a 4-1 win. Scovill would jump up and play 2nd singles taking an 8-4 win. Cameron Jones in 3rd singles took an 8-2 victory and both doubles teams, Alex Callahan and Zac Gregersen in 1st and Garret Bryner and Nathan Bauduin in 2nd claimed wins 8-3 and 8-0.
Union was the opponent in the next round for the Dinos who dispatched the Cougars 4-1. Derrick Jorgensen claimed his first win of the weekend in 1st singles with an 8-3 win over Jacob Sasser . Jones earned a win in 3rd singles 8-4 and the doubles team of Callahan and Gregersen won their match 8-3 as did the 2nd double team of Bryner and Bauduin 8-1.
The matches with San Juan in round four were a straight sweep with the Dinos winning 5-0, and the final round was against host Uintah.
The Uintah Utes are a school out of the 5A ranks and the Dinos faced tough competition in every event failing to win a match losing 5-0.
Carbon will now turn their focus back to Region 12 as they welcome Canyon View to Price Wednesday, for their final home matches of the season. Matches will begin at 3:30.
They travel to take on South Sevier on Thursday and then will dive into the Region 12 tournament May 13.
State competition will follow on May 20-21 at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.
