The Lady Dinos have played a very impressive regular season, and they were looking to end on a winning note on Wednesday when Canton View came to Price. In their first meeting against the Falcons, Carbon struggled finding offense in Cedar City losing 11-5. This time around on the Dinos home field, on Senior Day and with a region title in the balance Carbon would fight their way to a 5-4 win, taking the Region 12 crown and ending the regular season with a win headed to the playoffs.

This game started out very differently than it finished with Canyon View jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. In the bottom of the inning Mollie Horsley sent a single to right field bringing home Reese Ardohain, two batters later Gianna Bruno stepped up to the plate and on the first swing of the bat she sent one deep over the left field wall for a two-run home run clearing the bases and tying the score at three. Bruno would end the contest with two RBI’s scoring two runs on a 1-3 performance at the plate.

Both the Dinos and the Falcons would trade runs in the fifth inning, tying things back up at four. It was the bottom of the sixth when Makayla Scovill sent a ground ball to short bringing home Gabrielle Vasquez, putting the Dinos up by one. Canyon View had a chance in the top of the seventh, but with one on Haven Byerly would get Canyon View’s Gracie Burt swinging, ending the game and handing Carbon the region crown.

Byerly earned the complete game win giving up four earned on four hits while striking out 10. Byerly has had a dominant season on the mound ranking at No. 7 in strikeouts in the state across all classes.

Scovill ended the game with a pair of hits and an RBI. Horsley collected two hits adding an RBI and scoring a run.

The Dinos finish the regular season 20-5, and now sit and wait until 9 p.m. on Thursday when the final RPI rankings are released and the 3A softball bracket will be unveiled.
