It’s time for another Huntington City update with Mayor Leonard Norton who took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss curb/gutter work, Heritage Days and water conservation.
With temperatures warming up this means there is going to be some construction projects taking place around the city. “We got some curb/gutter going in, repair work, we got some road work going in. One of the roads by the cemetery and then we’re going to try to repave Center Street. If you can keep your eyes open and be careful while the work is going on and we’re trying to make it better for you,” stated Mayor Norton. Residents should see work starting in the next few weeks and are urge to proceed with caution when coming up on work sites.
City Officials are busy preparing for the annual Heritage Days celebration. “So the last weekend in June we have our rodeo that we always have. I want to say right around the 24th/25th, I think it’s a Friday/Saturday and then the following week we’ll have our Heritage Days, I think we start a little bit on Friday, but it will be Saturday and Monday,” explained Mayor Norton. Heritage Days activities and events include games, vendor booths, parade, fireworks, live entertainment and it will all take place again at Canyon View Middle School field. This allowed for social distancing last year and residents enjoyed the roomy, open, space.
It’s time to start working on your yards and gardens but the city wants to make sure that residents practice water conservation. “The snowpack on the mountain is just not looking very good. We do have our secondary water on right now but we’re asking citizens nothing after 9:00 am and nothing before 7:00 pm, don’t water during the heat of the day and we ask you to not water on the weekends. It just kind of helps build the pond back up for the week and not wasting all that water,” said Mayor Norton. Last year the city was very pleased with how residents conserved water and hope that those same efforts are applied again this summer.
