Coming off the 12-11 loss earlier in the day to South Summit, the Lady Spartans fell into the one-loss bracket knowing that their next loss would be the end of the season. Union was not an unfamiliar foe, they played them at the Payson Tournament earlier in the year, winning the game 9-1. This time around Union was ready and came away with the 4-1 victory.
The Spartans only run came from the bat of Cambrie Jensen when she sent a solo home run over the center field wall in the bottom of the second. Jensen finished 1-3 from the plate. Brooklynn Ekker gathered another hit as she singled into left in the fifth and Madisyn Childs added another single.
Defensively, Emery committed three errors in the field. Childs was on the mound taking the loss giving up one earned run on eight hits and struck out three.
The Spartans went into the tournament in the No. 5 spot, in fact they were in the top five in 3A the whole season. Emery ended 16-9 and had a very respactable 5-3 record in Region 12. How good was the conference this season? Four of the top 10 schools in 3A called Region 12 home.
