Price City would like to remind citizens of the Memorial Day graveyard decorating and cleaning guidelines. Community members who wish to start decorating for the Memorial Day holiday may start to do so now. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Parks & Cemetery Supervisor, Brianna Welch to discuss details.

“You can start decorating for Memorial Day a week before and that goes with all of our days of observance, it’s always the week before, they have to be removed the week after. Our clean-up is going to be on June 6. So as along as the decorations are still in the vases on upright headstones, you’re going to be fine. Anything on a flat headstone, has to be removed and the vase has to be tipped upside down,” said Welch. City officials urge citizens to not decorate using glass items as this could cause broken glass that people could step on and harm themselves.

To help navigate the traffic at the Price City Cemetery there will be some gate closures taking place beginning Friday, May 27. “All of the west entrances on Veterans Lane will be closed by 1:00 pm. Then the north and south gates will still be open for people to go north and south. Then we will close that early Saturday morning to all motorized vehicles,” stated Welch. The gates will remain closed/locked throughout the Memorial Day weekend holiday. The Price City Cemetery will be offering a shuttle service for residents who may need assistance. Cliffview Cemetery will have no gate closures.

Another important date to remember is cleanup day when the city comes in and begins their cleanup work which is scheduled to take place first thing in the morning on June 6. All live flowers and decorations left on graves, including Shepherd’s hooks and solar lights will be discarded. City officials urge citizens to remove all decorations prior to the clean-up date to avoid any misunderstandings.
