
The Lady Spartan golf team finished up their 2022 campaign on May 11 at the 3A State Championships at Oquirrh Hills, shooting an opening round 451 team score and missing the cut for day two.
Aspen Jensen and Cheyenne Bingham, who will both be juniors when the season starts next year, where the top finishers for the Spartans on day one.

March 15- Grand- Third Place
The group of five Region 12 teams officially opened the 2022 girl’s high school golf season Tuesday afternoon in Moab.
The Richfield Wildcats gathered seven of the top eight individual scores as they waltzed to a first place finish with a final team total of 360. Carbon ended in a distant second, falling 98-strokes back of the Wildcats. Emery wrapped up third place, followed by Canyon View and Grand.
Kimber Gilbert finished as the lead golfer for the Emery Spartans, who had eight girls participate at the season opening meet. Gilbert’s score of 109 topped second place teammate Trinity Nielson’s score of 116. Maggie Lindsey shot a 117 and Cheyenne Bingham finished with a 119.
The afternoon belonged to Richfield, who will take a monumental 98 shot lead into the second week of the season. Becca Poulsen leaped into first place by shooting an 84, just four strokes better than teammate Gwen Stubbs.
The season will continue for each of the Region 12 teams on Wednesday, March 23 when they head to Millsite, the home course of the Lady Spartans. The five teams will continue to compete with one another leading up to the state championship on May 11 and 12 at Oquirrh Hills.

March 30- Canyon View- Fourth Place
The Richfield Wildcats once again earned the top team spot, but Carbon’s Carley West fired an 18-hole total of 100 to lead the Carbon Dinos to a second place finish at the third Region 12 meet of the season Wednesday afternoon at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Cedar City.
A similar solid team performance from Richfield had four golfers all finish in the 90’s, leading to a team total of 363. The battle for second place, and the automatic 3A State Championship bid, heated up as Carbon fired a season-low 436. Canyon View finished in third at 473, followed by Emery’s 476.
Kimber Gilbert led the way for Emery as she ended with a 115. Trinity Nielson finished one stroke back with a 116, followed by Cheyenne Bingham’s 120. The team’s fourth score went to Aspen Jensen as she shot a 125.
Despite finishing a season worst fourth place at Wednesday’s meet, the Emery Lady Spartans remain in striking distance for the second spot in the standings.
Three meets remain on the golf regular season schedule as the group of five schools will next travel to Cove View, the homesite of the Richfield Wildcats, on Monday, April 4. A lengthy break will then set the stage for the Carbon Country Club Golf Course on Thursday, April 21.

April 26- Oquirrh Hills Golf Club- Third Place
The Region 12 golf season continued Tuesday afternoon as the five schools traveled to Oquirrh Hills Golf Course, the site of this year’s 3A State Championship.
The Richfield Wildcats once again ran away with the competition as they fired a team score of 362. Carbon continued to keep control of second place in the division with a team score of 410, topping third-place Emery by 25-strokes. Canyon View ended in fourth with a score of 478.
Cheyenne Bingham delivered the team low score for Emery as she ended with a 102. Trin Nielson gave the team its second score with a 105, followed by Maggie Lindsay’s 113. The fourth individual score went to Kimber Gilbert with a 115.
With only one Region 12 meet remaining in the regular season, Richfield and Carbon appear to have the two automatic qualifying spots locked up for the division. The top two teams in each region are guaranteed a spot in the state tournament and the remaining spots will go to the next eight highest team averages.
Each of the competing teams will have more opportunity to strengthen their overall team score on Monday. The regular season finale will take the region to Cove View, the home course of the Richfield Wildcats.
May 2- Richfield- Third Place
The Carbon Lady Dinos and the Emery Lady Spartans wrapped up the region golf season at Cove View, the homesite of the Richfield Wildcats, Monday afternoon. Carbon finished the day in the second spot and Emery in third.
Solidifying second place in the division, and a spot in the 3A State Tournament, Carbon finished with a team score of 399, falling well shy of first-place Richfield’s 331. Emery ended in third place with a 430 and Canyon View completed the team competition with a 467.
A total of 16 teams qualify for the 3A State Championship Tournament. After the automatic qualifiers the next eight best teams according to team average are awarded the final spots. The Lady Spartans fit the criteria and punched their ticket to the finale.
Each of the 16 qualifying teams will now take the week off before traveling to Oquirrh Hills Golf Course in Tooele on May 11 and 12 to decide the state champions. The first-round pairings have been set and can be viewed HERE.
3A State Championships
May 11-12- Oquirrh Hills Golf Club- Missed the cut
The Carbon and Emery ladies golf teams traveled to Tooele Wednesday for the two-day 3A State Golf Championships at Oquirrh Hills Golf Club. The Lady Spartans missed the cut after day one and the Dinos went into the second day in seventh place in the team competition. After day two Carbon slipped back one spot and finished the day in eighth.
Region 12 member Richfield was the wire to wire winner shooting a 337 both days ending the tournament at +98. Morgan came in finishing second at +156. Judge Memorial, Juan Diego and Union rounded out the top five.
Individually Richfield grabbed the top three finishes with Gwen Stubbs taking the top spot with a 159 at +15, Becca Poulsen shot a 160 and Shelby Gardner tied for third, with a 170. Elle DeMond of Morgan, Emily Keel of Union and Ava Issac of Judge Memorial made up the reminder of the top five.
