summer-lunch-2022

Let the school district in Carbon help serve your child a healthy and nutritious meal over the summer break beginning on Monday, June 6 running through till Friday, July 29. The cost is free for children under the age of 18 years old and adults may eat for $5.00. Our region is considered an economic disadvantage area so there are several sites available to visit for breakfast and lunch.

“So this year we’re going to go ahead and start our free and reduced lunch June 6, which is a Monday. We will start breakfast; we’re going to do breakfast this year at all the elementaries and lunch as well. So it will start at 7:45 am and go till 8:30 am. Then our lunch will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and it will be at the locations, at the elementaries, which would be Castle Heights, Creekview, Wellington, Sally Mauro, and Bruin Point,” said Program Director, Tonya Jones. For children in Wellington the site use to be held at the city park but due to the summer school schedule this year officials thought it was best to host the summer lunch program at the school.

Last year the program was funded by some district COVID funding that is now coming to an end as of June 30. “We are hoping that everybody will try to apply for Free and Reduced Lunch because it will help our district and help us all the way across the board,” stated Jones. It’s important that parents apply for Free and Reduced Lunch as this helps fund the program because it’s based on how many meals are served. The Free & Reduced application can be found on the school district website.

As per federal guidelines meals are not “grab-n-go” they must be eaten where served on site. Anyone and everyone ages 18 and under can eat for free and guests do not have to be from our county to benefit from this program. Children and families are encouraged to arrive early to the sites due to the fact that meals are served for a set amount of time. The program coordinators want to ensure that no child goes hungry this summer.
