The Price American Legion Post #3 would like to invite the community to their Annual Flag Day Ceremony. This will take place on Tuesday, June 14 at 12:00 pm, adjacent to the Price City Fire Department at 87 North 200 East.

There is a proper way to dispose of old, worn-out flags and with the help of the American Legion and local Boy Scout troops, they will be performing this service. “When it becomes unserviceable and that means faded, torn, shredded and tangled or otherwise its no longer a respectable flag, it’s not intact and it’s not bright. So we take that one down, you put up another one, what to do with the old flag? The old flag can be retired. We have a ceremony to formally recognize the flag’s service as an emblem of our nation we respectfully retire it in a fire that’s appropriate, it’s not a lighter fluid can or anything like that in a protest, its with respect to the nation,” stated Commander, David Jelin. If you have an old flag that you wish to dispose of but are unable to attend the Flag Day Ceremony you can take your old flags to the flag retirement box located inside Price City Town Hall.

This year event officials have decided to host the Flag Day Ceremony earlier in the day so that businesses/merchants could participate in the ceremony. “So we’ll have flags there and we’re going to do our Flag Day ceremony earlier this year. We’ll do it at 12:00 pm, we’ll have a brief ceremony recognizing the flag, its history, and then we’ll start retiring the flags. That way businesses or people that are open, instead of interrupting the dinner hour like last year we’ll do it mid-day. So if you remember you have a flag, go back, get it, bring it to us during the day. Government offices for the most part are open so come out of there, your business or home and bring your flags to us,” stated Commander Jelin. This event is a wonderful opportunity for members of the community to witness the retirement process.
