The Helper 19U baseball team worked late into the evening on the road last night to earn a victory over Minco 3-0 at the RBI Tournament in Burley, Idaho Thursday evening. Derek Robison had three RBI’s and on the mound Jordan Fossat got the victory for Helper.
In a game that was scheduled to start at 10:00 p.m. Fossat took the mound and pitched six innings of one-hit baseball allowing no runs and striking out 13. Rylan hart came in to finish up going one and striking out three.
Helper got on the board first in the top of the opening inning, when with two on, Robison came up to the plate, sending a single to right and driving in Peyton Molinar and Chet Anderson putting the score at 2-0.
The next five innings went very quiet for both teams as both defenses stepped up and held their opponents scoreless. The contest really turned out to be a pitcher’s duel as both team combined for just five hits spread across seven innings.
In the top of the sixth with Molinar on third, Robison came up to bat and sent one to left field bringing Molinar in putting the score at 3-0.
The 3-0 lead was all the Helper defense needed as they shut down Minco. Fossat faced just four batters getting one to ground out and after giving up a walk, striking out the next two. Hart came in for the seventh inning and after putting the first batter on base with a dropped third strike he got the next batter to ground out to first then would strike out the next two batter to end the contest.
Robison went 2-3 and finished with three RBI’s while Molinar was 2-3 scoring two runs.
Up next will be a double header on Friday. The first game against Jerome, is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start, then they turn around and face Thunder Ridge at 7:00 p.m..
The outcome of those games will determine when they will play their final game of the tournament on Saturday.
