Castle Country Radio held its first “Meet the Candidates – 2022” event in Emery County, on June 15 at the Little Theatre, inside the Spartan Center at Emery High School. At the initial event, the candidates for both seats for Emery County Commissioner participated, in the event on Wednesday evening it was the candidates for Emery County Sheriff that took the spotlight.

This Q&A event was held for an hour and each candidate was given two minutes to answer a question. The questions were submitted by email by voters who wanted to get to know the candidates or had concerns on county issues.

The latest session featured Emery County Sheriff candidate, Shaun Bell whose challenger Tyson R. Huntington was not in attendance. Bell was able to answer several questions about law enforcement and what he would do as Emery County Sheriff.

One of the questions that was asked was about a problem that is facing many rural areas of the state: shrinking budgets. When asked what he would cut as sheriff, his response was, “I don’t think we could make a cut in our sheriff’s office. We just went to leased vehicles to try and save some money on our budget now as we are leasing some vehicles to try that out. I don’t see anywhere right off the bat that we could cut anything. Just like I said we are going to try to bring in more state inmates to bring the budget back up to where it needs to be.”

Meet the Candidates 2022 for the sheriff’s race will air on KOAL 107.3 FM or 750 AM Thursday, June 16 at 5:00 p.m..

The video stream of the event is now available on koalitv.com.
