It was all about Senior Center events and water conservation when Castle Country Radio sat down with Carbon County Commissioner Casey Hopes.

The Senior Center is back up and running as they normally do since the COVID pandemic. “Everything’s functioning they’re having meals Monday through Thursday. They do kind like to have a heads up on how many people are coming, just so that they can plan for meals. Its for 65 and older, you can go eat with them but typically we ask that those younger than 65 pay for their meal; there’s a suggested donation for that,” said Hopes. Lunch is served Monday through Thursday from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm with a suggested donation of $3.00 per person, per meal All meals are prepared the same, no special dietary meals are prepared, however, there are diabetic desserts available upon request.

“There’s some really good activities too. I mean they do BINGO, and they have movies, and they have computer classes and lots of different events. Matter of fact, Thursday, June 16 they’re going to go to Sunnyside Park as a Senior Group and have a picnic out there,” explained Hopes. There will be transportation provided for the picnic. All of the monthly events can be found in the Carbon County Senior Center’s free newsletter that is readily available at the center.

Our area is facing another year of drought-like conditions so its important that folks practice water conservation again this year. “Make sure that we’re watering deep, and less often so that we can keep our lawns and everything healthy. Whatever you can do to cut back on your use of water is much appreciated. It’s no secret we’ve been in a drought not just for two years but for 10 years in the west and its hitting really hard. Our water situation isn’t as dire as some areas but we still have to be careful because we don’t know what next year’s going to bring. So the more we conserve the better we are doing this potentially helps us out,” said Hopes. The best county agency to work with if you are unsure on how often to water or for other water conservation tips is the USU Extension Office.

Carbon County Commissioners meet the first and third Wednesday of the month at 4:30 pm for their regular meetings that are held at the Carbon County Administration Building located at 751 East 100 North.
