The Greek Festival is going to be similar to last year’s celebration in that there will be delicious food available for purchase and no entertainment again this year. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Chairman, Joe Juliano to discuss this year’s food and pastries to go.
“It’s just going to be the food. When we started planning this year, COVID was starting to ramp up and we thought we’re going to go one more year, like we did last year. It was successful, I know people want to get together and gather, hopefully next year we can. But we are going to have a few tables on the northside of the church, southside of pavilion so people can sit for a few minutes if they need to,” stated Juliano. The Greek Festival Express will take place July 8 and July 9 from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm at the church.
“We’re doing our main platter again this year. Of course, once again, everybody that has been shopping or been to the gas pump you’ve seen prices have gone up everywhere. We’ve had to raise our main plate to $25.00 this year. On that plate, you will have a choice of entrée, either a Gyro which is the shaved meat, severed on a pita bread with tomato, onions and tzatziki; or you can have a Souvlaki which is a shish-ka-bob and that’s our marinated pork on skewer; or a choice of Greek Chicken which is baked infused and marinated with lemon, garlic and oregano,” explained Juliano. Along with the main plate you will get three sides dishes, Greek Rice Pilaf, two Domathes and one Tiropita. Quantities of each entrée and sides dishes are limited, so its first come, first serve.
The Greek Pastries are a tradition in the area so they will be made available and boxed to go for guests to enjoy. “We’ve been working every weekend getting these put together. They come in, the pastries and cookies come four to a package. The Kourambiethes which are the powered sugar ones, they’re will be four in those. The price had to go up again this year, sorry, $8.00. The Finikia, they’re will be four of those in one, $8.00. Four Baklava in a container, those have gone up to $14.00. The Koulourakia the twisted ones, the braided ones, 12 of those in a package for $8.00 or a loaf of the bread, the sweet bread, $10.00 for loaf,” stated Juliano. All the food items have been carefully prepared by the church members.
