It maybe the middle of July, but they’re already talking about the upcoming Emery Spartan golf season. Coach Kasey Edgehouse is ready to get the boy’s team started and is looking forward to getting the Spartans back on their home course at Millsite.

Edgehouse, Emery High School golf coach for the boys and girls, who also happens to be the General Manager at Millsite, Emery’s home course, is excited for the opportunity to play region golf at home for the first time in over a year. Due to the construction, the Emery teams played their region matches in Green River, but look forward to getting back to Millsite. Edgehouse was a guest on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports recently and talked about playing in Green River as opposed to Millsite.

“We used Green River last year and we were so thankful to use their course and they were really good about it. The hard part is , we weren’t able to get down there and practice like we should, like we normally do. We practice everyday here, the kids know the greens, they know the fairways, they know their misses. And a lot of the other kids they may come for one practice round or two practice rounds a year, but that still doesn’t give them the advantage of what my kids can get, being able to know the course and the biggest thing is to know where they can miss.”

Tryouts for the Spartan golf team will take place on August 1 & 2. And with the upsurge in the Junior Program in Emery County, Edgehouse expects over 30 kids to come out. The program has grown and the numbers show it.

“This will be the second year we’ve had to have tryouts, for the high school golf team, which means the junior program is working pretty good. We went from having 11, 12 ,15 kids to this last year we had 60, and the way it’s going we’ll probably have 90 kids in the junior program this year.”
