back-to-school-2

It’s that time of year for families to start preparing to go back to school and with the expense of purchasing clothing and school supplies it can take its toll on a family’s budget. This is why the Carbon County Family Support and Children’s Justice Center are lending a helping hand to those in need by hosting their Annual Back to School Giveaway on August 10 and August 11.

“What we’re trying to do is help families that are really struggling financially and we want their children to be able to go to school with as many new items as they can,” said Director, Shelley Wright. “The event will start on August 10 and will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on the 10th and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on August 11.” The event will be hosted at the Carbon County Events Center on 450 South Fairgrounds Way in Price.

Right now, organizers are looking for new or gentle used items for the clothing giveaway, plus are in need of school supplies. “We are accepting gentle used clothes and new clothes. So we can not accept clothes that have holes, stains, rips, broken zippers or buttons, we just won’t be able to give those items away. Shoes have to be in really good condition or go out and buy one pair of shoes, buy a back pack,” explained Wright. Although we are still in the warmer months of the year, winter items such as scarves, sweaters, jackets and coats are acceptable too.

The event tries to supply each student with a new backpack filled with school supplies so those items are also needed. “Obviously school supplies, brand new school supplies, notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, 3-ring binders. We really need college ruled notebooks more than we need the wide ruled,” said Wright. Other items can include crayons, highlighters, backpacks, Kleenex, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes. All donated items will help children in the local area.

Since 1996 the Carbon County Family Support and Children’s Justice Center serves the community by helping children and their families build stronger and healthier relationships.
