The Helper Merchants began play on Monday in the 17u American Legion State Tournament that is being held in Price at the fields at Carbon High School. Tied after the first inning Helper went on to add runs and shut down the Trappers offensively in the 13-3 win.

Tied at two runs Helper came up in the bottom of the second and added another run taking a short lived lead as the the Trappers came up in the top of the third to knot things back up at three.

In the bottom of the third, the Merchants found offense starting with Logan Madrigal’s single to center bringing home Jace Barlow.  Michael Vigil came up three batters later to hit a triple bringing in Madrigal and Jaxon Ingram. Maddux Hart earned an RBI with a fly ball to left field that scored Vigil.

The Merchants had rally again in the bottom of the sixth when Hart would send another fly ball, to right field this time, bringing home Kanon Childs and Ingram. Tyrus Madsen sent a fly to center reaching on an error that also allowed Vigil and Hart. Pushing the score to 13-3 and ending the contest in six innings.

The Merchants used four pitchers in the contest Vigil, Tyrus Madsen, Skyler Madden and Ingram, with Vigil and Madsen getting the bulk of the work. Vigil started the game on the mound going 2 2/3 innings giving up three runs (one earned)  on two hits and struck out two. Madsen came in next putting in three innings of work giving up one hit and striking out one.

Hart led the Merchants with four RBI’s on three hits and scored one run. Vigil went three-of-four, scoring four runs and adding three RBI’s.

Helper will take to the field again tonight at 6 p.m., they will take on Ridgeline on the North Carbon High field.
