Our beloved John Joseph Barnett, age 86, passed away July 18, 2022. He was 86.

John was born on February 14, 1936 in Knoxville, Iowa to John Andrew and Nell Irene Graham Barnett. He moved west with his parents and sisters in 1944 so his father could mine coal for the war effort. The family settled in Hiawatha.

His fondest memories were of growing up in Hiawatha with his many friends. John graduated from Carbon High School in 1955. He loved playing basketball and baseball; he excelled in both.

After two years working on Catalina Island, California, John came home and married his beloved wife Geraldine (Jerri) Hayes. They were married for 65 years.

In 1959, he went to work for Amoco Petroleum. This job took him to Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Texas where his son was born. In 1967, John was transferred to Farmington, New Mexico where they added three daughters to the family. He was there for 38 years, retiring in 1992. John and Jerri moved to Emery, Utah, then to Price.

He honorably served his country in the US Army in the transportation corps, based in Bad Kreuznach, Germany.

John was an avid golfer. He was very good at the sport. He loved his trips to Mesquite and considered his golf buddies as his family. John always enjoyed being with and around his family. He loved everyone very much. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jerri; son, Yancy (Amanda) Barnett, Spanish Fork, Utah; daughters, Stacy (Chris) Rambough, Boise, Idaho, Crissy (Jarron) Rasmussen, Wanship, Utah, Michele Rinehart, Boise, Idaho; sisters, Helen Garr, Pearl Oliver, Norma Pickup, Joy Hansen, Dorothy Hansen; brother, Andrew Barnett; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John in preceded in death by his parents, John and Nell Barnett; daughter, Tamandra Barnett; brother, Roy Barnett.

Graveside service, Friday, July 22, 2022, 2:30 p.m., Emery Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street, Price, Utah 84501) from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of John online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
