Byron Christiansen from Emery High School and Shalako Gunter of Carbon High both took part in the National High School Finals Rodeo last week in Gillette, Wyoming. Christiansen competed in a pair of events Bareback and Saddle Bronc and Gunter competed in Trap Shooting.

In the Saddle Bronc competition, Christiansen scored a first round 73 which was enough to tie for sixth place. Moving into the second round he earned a 67, which put his aggregate score at 140 which was enough to finish in 15th place out of 47 riders who took part. Statler Wright from Beaver, Utah earned a first place finish.

The Bareback event landed him a score of 61 which was enough for 51st place out of 73 riders. Kade Madsen from Honeyville, Utah claimed the third spot and Tucker Carricato of Saratoga, Wyoming, finished in the top spot.

Gunter is no stranger to the National High School Finals as she competed last year. In this year’s event she scored a 92 out of 100, that score was enough to put her tied for 36th place out of 125 shooters. Chase Campbell from Utah shot a near perfect round of 99 to claim the top prize.
