Fresh off a thrilling last-second win a week ago, the Carbon Dinos took the field again Friday night and extinguished the Grand Red Devils, 31-13, for their first 2-0 start since 2014.
The Red Devils came into the game after a 50-0 defeat of Water Canyon the week before, but Carbon made sure to take care of business in their home opener.
Grand got things started with a goal line rushing touchdown by sophomore quarterback Tatym Bisco eight minutes into the game. Carbon quickly responded just three minutes later on a touchdown run by senior quarterback Wyatt Falk from the one yard line.
Carbon took hold of momentum with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Falk to Mason Vasquez on fourth down. Just a quick four minutes later, Falk had his second touchdown pass of the night after a 49-yard dart to Ashton Ferguson, who broke a tackle before waltzing into the endzone, giving Carbon a 21-7 lead.
Grand scored another touchdown and cut the Dino lead to just eight points, 21-13, as the teams headed into halftime.
Carbon continued their dominance on offense, as Dylan Curtis added a 23-yard field goal to make the Dino lead 24-13 with six minutes.
After multiple defensive stops, Carbon took possession once again and milked the clock to just 24 seconds remaining before Falk threw his third touchdown of the game, this one to running back Trever Worley.
The Dinos dominated their way to a convincing 31-13 win as the defense held Grand to just 250 total yards of offense. More notably, the Red Devils finished the game with 21 penalties for 223 yards compared to just 70 yards on 10 penalties for Carbon.
Chanse Pendergrass, Collin Fausett and Mason Vasquez continued to anchor the Dino defense as Grand struggled to find any momentum after their first drive, which ended in a Red Devil touchdown. Wyatt Falk led the Dinos offense with three touchdown passes and just one interception.
Next week, the undefeated Dinos will travel to Ogden, Utah to take on the Ogden Tigers. Ogden will be fresh and ready to roll as the Tigers had a bye this last week. Ogden will enter the game with an 0-1 record, dropping their season opener against Canyon View.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26 with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 live from Ogden on KRPX 95.3 The Peak.
