We are sad to announce the passing of Faye, aka “FayeDon,” aka “Facebook Pirate,” aka “Granny” Landavazo, who peacefully traded her earth angel wings for heavenly wings at age 76 on August 17, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Faye and her twin, Kay Haycock, were born September 13, 1945, in Spring Glen, Utah, to Elvin and Maude (Hammond) Haycock.
Anyone lucky enough to have known her knows what a sweet and loving person she was. Faye and I married on December 28, 1961. We were just two young crazy kids who somehow made it through good and bad times, built a family, raised four wonderful sons together, and later were blessed with four terrific daughters by marriage who gave us seven incredible grandkids who affectionately called her Granny.
I remember the first time seeing her at the Black Diamond Rodeo, thinking “that is the girl I could fall in love with.” Destiny later introduced us through mutual friends. She was 13 but told me she was 16, while I told her I was 18, but was really 16. No matter, we fell in love, and I was lucky enough to marry her three years later.
Recently, I told her I was smarter than she and I could prove it with one question: Who did she marry and who did I marry? She agreed I was the smart one, but only for that one reason. She blessed us with four sons whom she loved completely and unconditionally, and they later blessed us with seven wonderful grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her beauty was apparent on the outside but more importantly her beauty shined brightly from the inside. She was always smiling, unless you asked her for a photo, gave the warmest hugs, and saw the good in everybody. Her positivity and love were radiating.
Although Faye struggled with various health issues for many years and despite the fact they affected her physical abilities, nothing affected her positive and loving spirit. Through every struggle she remained positive and was always making sure her family was happy, which was always her number one priority. She loved fiercely with her whole heart.
She is survived by her husband, Don; sons, Vern (Bianka), Randy (Yvonne), Troy (Kammy) and Russ “Dino” (Leslee); grandchildren, Tim, Jordan, Alysha, Samantha “Shammy,” Cameron, and Nico; great-grandchildren, Dani and Andrew “Noodle Head;” sister-in-law, JoAnn Legat; and brother, Richard Haycock; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Peggy Marshall, Beulah Picco, and twin, Kay Haycock; mother-in-law, Della Gonzales; brothers-in-law, Tommy Landavazo, Gene Pico, and Bob Marshall; and granddaughter, Lauren “Pooh Bear” Landavazo. It is so hard to lose her in this life, but we know there is a grand reunion on the other side and that her spirit will always be with us, that we will all someday be reunited.
The Landavazo family would like to send our gratitude and appreciation for the amazing care of Faye to the entire staff of Castleview Hospital during her stay. They fought tirelessly to help Faye get healthy enough to come home, but it was an unfair fight. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, Dr. Valdez and the entire nursing staff at Castleview for your outstanding care and compassion.
To honor Faye’s memory, we are holding a visitation on Sunday, August 21, 2022, from 7-8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price, Utah.
