Tuesday the Lady Spartan soccer club hosted Delta in Castle Dale. Emery held the Rabbits to a single goal in the first half of the contest, but with only 15 minutes gone in the second half Emery was down 6-0 and couldn’t dig themselves out of the hole.
Delta entered the game with a 4-1 mark on the season with wins over Parowan, Payson, Beaver and Millard. The only blemish on their record was the opening day loss to Carbon.
Emery’s defense held tough in the first half sending the game into the break with the Rabbits up by one. In the second half, Delta came out and put five goals on the board with in the first fifteen minutes of the half, putting the Lady Spartans in a hole which they could not climb out of.
Since the beginning of the season on Aug. 11, when Emery opened up with a win in front of the home crowd over Beaver, the Lady Spartans have lost five straight against Manti, Millard, American Heritage, Juab and now Delta.
Head coach Erik Nielsen was a guest on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports and with just a few games left until region play begins, Nielsen was asked if he had been keeping an eye on other teams in the conference.
“I’ve watched a little bit, all the teams in our region are doing really well record wise. You compare them to our record and it may be a little disheartening, but I really feel like our girls are progressing where they should be and I expect our team to be in the game with pretty much everybody in our region.”
Next up for the Spartans will be a road contest in Roosevelt against Union.
The following Tuesday they will be home to take on the South Sevier Rams at 5 p.m..
