This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Bruin Point Elementary where Principal Connie Todachinnie took time to speak over the telephone about the school’s yearly theme and new faculty.

“We started out really well, we have a lot of new students, which is always good to see and we started with a new theme this year, I won’t give up. It comes from Zootopia actually, so the song by Shakira – Try Everything, so that’s our new theme, I won’t give up,” stated Principal Todachinnie. School officials kicked off the school year with an opportunity to watch the movie Zootopia and learn the song Try Everything.

Students also received sheriff badges as a reminder of the school’s theme. “We got sheriff badges because sheriffs never give up and that’s Judy Hobbs on Zootopia. Then the kids will get prizes if they keep their badges here at school during the year. We’ll just randomly select a day and anybody that has their sheriff’s badge will get a prize and we’ll get pictures. Anyway, the kids are really excited, and so are the teachers, so am I,” said Principal Todachinnie. The badges are a great way to keep on track when it comes to the school’s theme of, I won’t give up.

Not only are there new student faces but there are also new faculty members this year. “So for second grade we have Natalie Bigelow that’s coming to us from Helper, wonderful, wonderful teacher. Mr. Jared Barker that’s coming actually from down where I use to be and he’s in third grade and he’s phenomenal.  We got a really phenomenal staff. Then Mrs. Valarie Sherwood actually moved from third to fourth grade this year,” explained Principal Todachinnie.  There are also new para-professionals this year that are eager to work with the teachers and students.

So overall the school year has begun with a positive vibe and Principal Todachinnie would like to thank the parents, “I also want to send a shout out to all the parents, thank you so much for everything. For all your support, for getting your kids to school on time, for your kind smiles when you drop your kids off. Just thank you, everybody, all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, everybody, brothers and sisters for helping us make it a great start to our school year.”
