The Lady Dinos just started playing on Aug. 16 but had put together back-to-back wins to start the season. On Tuesday, they traveled to Roosevelt to take on the Union Cougars. Carbon jumped out taking the first set, but it was all Union after that with the Cougars taking the 3-1 win.
Union entered Tuesday’s contest sporting a 6-3 record with losses from 5A Olympus, 4A Pocatello, and 5A Orem. Union is also the defending 3A State Champions.
Carbon came out taking set number one 25-14, and that was all the motivation that the Cougars needed as they would take set number two 25-12. In set three, Carbon kept it close in what could have been a turning point in the match for the Dinos, but Union battled to a 26-24 win. Union would then close the door winning the fourth and final set 25-19, handing the Lady Dinos their first loss of the young season.
The Dinos are sitting at 2-1 as they head to St. George this weekend for the Dixie Tournament. Last year over the same weekend Carbon went a perfect 5-0 with wins over Pine View, Millard, Spanish Fork, and Kanab as well as host team Dixie.
After this weekend the Dinos have two more non-region games on the road against North Summit and North Sanpete.
They open up Region 12 play on Sept. 13 in Cedar City as they face Canyon View.
