Trained disaster volunteers and staff from the American Red Cross of Utah are assisting Moab officials with damage assessment and providing cleanup kits to residents as the
town continues to recover from the weekend’s flash flooding.

Moab’s mayor declared a state of emergency after dozens of homes and businesses were flooded. All the city’s trails, bridges, and street entrances were closed as city crews and the community work to clean up. Anyone affected by the Moab flooding needing Red Cross assistance is urged to call 1-800-RED CROSS.

“We are working with city and county emergency management to assess the damage to homes and determine who is in need of Red Cross assistance,” said Benjamin Donner, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Central and Southern Utah Chapter. “Red Cross caseworkers will continue to work with families in the days and weeks ahead, offering recovery guidance and support to help them get back on their feet.”

For immediate cleanup needs, the Red Cross of Utah is providing nearly 100 Red Cross flood clean up kits, which includes a 5-gallon pail with industrial grade cleaning supplies and other tools to help residents remove water and silt from their homes and to prevent mold and mildew. The kits, which were donated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are being distributed from the Moab Valley Fire Protection District station, 45 South 100 East.

“We want to help make sure everyone displaced by the floods has a safe place to stay, food to eat, critical relief supplies, emotional support, and comfort,” said Donner. “Any disaster is devastating to those going through it, and the Red Cross is here for everyone. If you’re a Moab resident who still needs assistance, please call 1-800-RED CROSS.”
