It’s time for Ferron City’s annual town celebration, Peach Days is set to take place the week of September 6. Mayor Adele Justice took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details of the celebration.
First off, the mayor wanted to speak on the water situation this year, “We’ve had an exciting year with our water. We’ve had plenty of water to keep our gardens going and raise some fantastic vegetables and fruits, and we’re happy to see things green, it’s been a great summer for us.” She is very thankful to the citizens who have been very watchful when it comes to watering at decent hours of the day.
City officials are excited for this year’s Peach Day Celebration which is sure to entertain all guests who attend. “So Peach Days is just what it is, it’s Peach Days. It’s every year starting the Tuesday after Labor Day. So this year we’re the 6th through the 10th, our schedule pretty much stays the same all the time. We have a great time doing the same events every single year. So this year we’re going to start Peach Days off with a Fun Run on Tuesday night. So our fun run we have a group that comes in and take over, they plan a little route, you can come, you can run, you can walk, you can do whatever suits you and just have a great time,” said Mayor Justice. The run will begin at 6:00 pm at the library and the cost to participate is $20.00. All proceeds will benefit the Emery High School Cross Country Team.
On Wednesday, September 7 there will be a bike ride held at 6:00 pm at the Mayors Park. Participants are asked to bring a helmet. There will be two different rides available to enjoy and there will be prizes given away after the ride. “Thursday night we’ll have a dessert contest. I’m not sure the theme, we usually have a little bit of a theme. You can make a dessert and bring it. We’ll judge your desserts and then we just share and everybody eats dessert. While we’re doing that, we have our youngsters paint pictures on the sidewalk, sidewalk chalk and that is always so much fun,” said Mayor Justice. BINGO will also be played at 6:30 pm at the church on the hill.
Then on Friday there will be a free dinner at the Mayors Park at 6:00 pm and fireworks at dusk. Saturday kicks off bright and early with the field of flags at 7:30 am, followed by a breakfast presented by the Fire Department from 7:00 am to 9:00 am. “At 10:00 am we’ll start our morning parade, and our parade route is a little bit different this year so when you come into Ferron just kind of watch for the signs to see where to go for the best view of the parade. Right after the parade, you can come over the Mayors Park and we’ll have bounce houses, and some vendors, live entertainment there as well and fun going on there,” explained Mayor Justice. There will also be a car show, game show event, horse races and a color dance.
