The non-region part of the Lady Spartans soccer schedule is coming to an end and maybe not a moment too soon. The Spartans have struggled early this season scoring five goals in seven games, and it didn’t get better on Thursday in Roosevelt against Union. The Cougars would rattle off six goals in the first half taking the win 6-0.
Emery is sitting at 1-6, with their only win coming against Beaver to open the season. The Spartans jump into region play on Thursday, when they welcome Grand to Castle Dale.
Thursday night against Union, the ball just did not bounce the Spartans way, with the Cougars coming out red hot scoring all of their goals in the first half. Emery couldn’t find the back of the net the whole game and have now been shut out in back to back contests.
Talking to some of the players earlier in the week the Lady Spartans feel that they are improving game after game and are moving in the right direction. They are learning to play together, and communication seems to be the main focus in practice.
The Grand County Red Devils will come to town to open up league play on Thursday, Sept. 1. Last season in the two games these teams faced each other, they split the season series with each team winning at home. In the game at Grand it was a tight affair but still a 1-0 loss. Then on Sept. 21 of last year in Castle Dale, the Spartans walked away with a 5-1 win.
Before they get there they will square off with South Sevier on Tuesday in Castle Dale, that game will start at 5 p.m..
