The Emery Spartan volleyball squad, coming off a win on Thursday over Duchesne at the Spartan Center, headed off to St. George for the Dixie High School Fly High Tournament. Running up against teams like Payson, Valley and host school Dixie, the Spartans went 2-4 on the weekend.

Going into the weekend with a 2-2 record including a win over South Sevier, the Lady Spartans are still a couple weeks away from the start of the region season.

First up on Friday for Emery was the Payson Lions. Payson came out and took the first set 25-21 only to watch as the Spartans would come back and take set two 27-25. and then the Lions took the third and final set 15-13.

Next up was the host school, Dixie Flyers. The Flyers would drop the first set 25-22. The last two sets were all Dixie, 25-21 and 16-14.

The Lady Spartans would end pool play on Friday evening by taking on Valley. Valley earned the straight set win with the same score in both sets 25-23.

Saturday was a new day as Emery would start out the day with back-to-back wins against San Juan and Hillcrest.

Game one was with the San Juan Broncos. Last season in October these two teams met up with Emery taking the win 25-18, 25-9. On Saturday, the Spartans earned a victory in straight sets 25-19, 25-16 and 25-16.

Hillcrest High School comes from the 5A ranks out of Midvale. This one would go four sets, with Emery taking sets one and two 25-11 and 25-19. Set three was a marathon that would go back and forth and Hillcrest came out on top 36-34. The Lady Spartans would turn it on in the fourth and final set taking a 25-12 win.

In the last game of the weekend, Emery would face-off with rival Carbon. Last season these two teams met twice last season with Emery taking both contests. On Saturday afternoon, on a neutral court Carbon took all three sets 25-23, 25-14, 25-23.

Moving forward Emery has the luxury of their next four games at home.

First up is a non-region match-up with South Summit on Thursday, then the following week they face Manti and Juab, before opening their regular season with Richfield.

The game on Thursday with South Summit is set to start at 6:30 in the Spartan Center.
