The United Way of Eastern Utah stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about their upcoming Day of Caring event set to take place on Saturday, September 10. They would like to invite the community to come out for this gathering of volunteerism.
“It’s at 7:30 am at Lin’s parking lot, we’re really hoping for a big core of volunteers and you can come, you know grab some breakfast and signup for a project. We’ll have various options there, everything from cleaning out the areas around the canal, to cleaning out down by the Price River Trail. I’m going to be doing some painting of little activities on the sidewalk. You know we have some projects that involve some people’s private homes that they need a little help with. There are things going on all over the city,” stated Executive Director Pam Boyd. This event is one of the largest single-day of volunteerism in Carbon County. This is open to all ages willing to donate a Saturday morning to help beautify the community.
There are a few church groups that have volunteered to do cleanup projects near their neighborhoods. “Join the group, there will be people working out in streets and rights- of-way around the city and if you see a group don’t feel like you have to formalize anything, just get out there and help,” said Boyd. If you aren’t comfortable with this option there will be projects presented at the breakfast the morning of the event that you can choose to be a part of. Volunteers are asked to please wear appropriate clothing and shoes, sunscreen, bring work gloves and tools to assist with some of the scheduled projects
Folks that donate their time are invited to Washington Park at noon for an appreciation luncheon. “Everybody gets together after a morning of work at noon, everybody will get together at Washington Park and we’ll give you some lunch. I have a bunch of ladies there to volunteer, for their effort of Day of Caring is they’re going to bake stuff and so we’ll have fresh baked goods for dessert and just enjoy some time together,” stated Boyd. This is a free luncheon for all the hard work that volunteers have performed the entire morning.
