This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Castle Heights Elementary and Principal Wendy Fluckey took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss testing, new faculty members, and what is this year’s focus.

Principal Fluckey is pleased thus far with how things are going, “You know we just started school two weeks ago, kindergarten started a week ago and I’d have to say things are off to a relatively smooth start.” School officials have been pleased with how the school has begun and are so excited to have students back in the building.

The school has not wasted any time and have started its testing for the beginning of the year. “In fact, we started it the day after school started. We’ve almost completed the Dibbles and RAZ testing which is the reading testing for kindergarten through fifth grade and now we’re moving into our Acadience math testing to just get that beginning of the year data,” explained Principal Fluckey. School officials want to remind parents the importance of attendance during these testing days.

There are a few new faces as far as faculty goes. “We are excited to add Renae Pressett to our team, she’s our instructional coach. We also have Casey Frazier that’s our new Special Ed teacher, and then we would also like to welcome Tristan Garvin, he’s our new fourth-grade teacher,” stated Principal Fluckey. She is very excited to have these new faculty members and is looking forward to working with them this year.

Castle Heights will focus again this year on improving reading skills with all of its students. “Well, our goal is definitely to raise our reading goals, which is the district goal, as well as our school goal. Then we also have the focus on increasing our basic math, math competency. So those are the two big focus areas that we focus on each grade level, according to their grade level standards,” said Principal Fluckey. School officials appreciate that the parents help with the improvement of reading by having their students read at home.
