The non-region portion of Carbon volleyball’s schedule is slowly winding down as they get ready for next week’s match with Canyon View. Before they can get there though, the Lady Dinos made the trip to Mount Pleasant on Wednesday knocking off the North Sanpete Hawks 3-1.
Carbon has put together an 8-3 record so far playing out their early schedule which included a tournament in St. George. On Friday, the Utah High School Activities Association will release their initial RPI rankings for volleyball. The rankings will be updated throughout the remainder of the season and then will be used as seeding for the 3A State Championships.
The Dinos claimed a 25-22 victory in a tightly contested first set. North Sanpete then came back in set two with a 25-16 win. The final two sets remained competitive as the Hawks kept coming back but Carbon shut the door in the third set 25-21 and then again in the fourth and final set 25-20.
Dani Jensen helped the cause by getting 10 kills and going after 14 digs in the match. Madi Orth had seven kills and 15 digs and Makayla Pugliese came up with 22 digs. Sav Hurst led the team with 21 assists.
This was the only game this week for the Lady Dinos as they prepare to jump into Region 12 play next week when they travel to Cedar City to face Canyon View. Last season was the first one for Canyon View in Carbon’s region, as they dropped down from 4A. The Dinos took both meetings last season 3-1 and 3-0.
Carbon will be on the road for both games next week. After Cedar City they travel to Manti for the final non-region match with the Templars next Thursday.
The Lady Dinos will take their home floor again on Sept. 20 against Grand.
