The Pirates baseball squad has had a rough 2022-2023 season. Starting in early August and persistently making their way through the season searching for that first win. Last Saturday they faced Telos on the road and picked up a 21-10 victory.

Green River is sitting at 1-11 and holds the No. 13 in the Utah High School Activities Association. The regular season ends on Sept. 23 and the playoffs will begin a week later on Sept. 30. If the state playoffs were to take place today the Pirates would face No. 12 Diamond Ranch Academy.

Since their loss to No. 1 Panguitch on Aug. 31, the Pirates were handed three straight losses by No. 2 Piute, No. 5 Wayne and No. 9 Pinnacle in a close one at home 5-3.

The game with Telos was a non-region affair that was solidified with an 11 run third by Green River. Telos came out in the bottom of the fifth to put up four runs making the score 17-10.

Bridjer Meadows had a day for the Pirates, going 2-4 with three RBI’s and a pair of runs scored. Camden Anderson was 2-3 with 3 RBI’s and three runs scored while Hoyt Hunt, Rolaldo Anguiano, Jarrett Guerrera and Jo Vollmer each contributed with two RBI’s.

On the mound, Green River’s trio of Bridjer Meadows, Ryker Meadows and Jason Hernandez combined for seven earned runs on four hits and struck out 12.

The Pirates start into the final stretch of five games on Tuesday when they welcome No. 4 Altamont to Green River for a non-region meeting. After that three of the last four will be against teams in the top 10. They face Diamond Ranch Academy (No. 12), Valley (No. 6) on Sept. 16 which will be Senior Day, Bryce Valley (No. 3) and the season ends on the road against No. 1 Panguitch.

Tuesday’s game against Altamont is set for a 3:30 start.
