Active Re-Entry is hosting their annual Run, Walk & Roll for Independence 5K on Saturday, September 17 at 8:00 am at their building located at 10 South Fairgrounds Road in Price. Director, Terri Yelonek stopped by to talk about all the details with Castle Country Radio.
“Its our largest fundraising activity for the year but its also a very fun opportunity for the community to participate in. Because the event is actually free and it’s for people with all abilities so we’ve had people come in their power wheelchairs, scooters, walking, running, it’s just a great opportunity to support the programs at Active Re-Entry and also get out and get some exercise and participate in the community,” explained Yelonek. Not only is this an opportunity to exercise but participants can learn more about the various services that are offered at Active Re-Entry.
This is the 19th annual event that is held every year in September and although it is free to participate, the organization does accept and appreciates donations. “You know just contact us or if you’re going to donate when you come to the activity that morning on the 17th of September, just bring your donation then. If you’re a business and you would like to sponsor the event, send us a check, call – we’ll come get it. But we’ll also take your banner so we can display that on the day of the event, so that you can get recognition for your sponsorship,” stated Yelonek. Remember, the donations and the funding that the organization receives goes towards the programs and activities for individuals with disabilities.
Active Re-Entry will be hosting an Elder Abuse Prevention & Caregivers Conference on September 30 at 8:00 am at the USU Eastern Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. “This will be a great opportunity for all of our caregivers out there. It doesn’t matter if you’re a neighbor, friend, as you said Dave, even a child of an aging parent, anyone that you might be providing care for. Caregiving is a hard job, so we do what we can to support caregivers, we’ve talked before about how we have a caregiver’s monthly support group. But this is the caregivers and adult abuse workshop and it’s provided by Active Re-Entry and Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments, as well,” said Yelonek. Interested participants are asked to please RSVP by Thursday, September 15 by calling (435) 637-4950 to reserve your spot. The reason for the RSVP is that there will be a breakfast and luncheon served to all participants.
