Bode Salas won his third consecutive Region 12 championship as the Carbon Dinos wrapped up the regular season with a second-place finish in the league finale Wednesday afternoon at the Cove View Golf Course in Richfield.
Carbon entered the Region 12 Championship meet trailing the Richfield Wildcats by 40 strokes. Unable to make a dent in the deficit, the Wildcats claimed the league crown as they shot a team-low 303, topping Carbon by five-strokes.
The Emery Spartans finished in third after shooting a season best 328. Canyon View ended in fourth with a 348, finishing four strokes higher than fifth place Grand.
Salas closed out his third league championship by shooting a 70, which placed him second in the meet. The individual standings are determined by each golfer’s six best season meets. In the end Salas finished 12-strokes better than second-place finisher Keaton Anderson from Richfield. Grand’s Wyatt Toney ended in third, followed by Richfield’s Jaygen and Pace Mullen.
Kyler Clark helped push Carbon to the team’s final score as he ended with a 77. Daron Garner was third on the team with an 80, while Jack Hedin scored the fourth score with an 81.
The second-place team finish automatically qualifies Carbon for the 3A State Championship Tournament, which is scheduled to take place on Oct. 5 and 6 at Cove View. The team pairings for the season final will be announced next week.
