Friday night featured the celebration of the 2022 Carbon High seniors on a beautiful senior night. The Dinos announced each to-be graduate before kick-off with the North Sanpete Hawks.
As the 2-5 Dinos took the field with the 2-5 Hawks, Carbon hoped to snap a 5-game losing streak after a 2-0 start to the season.
North Sanpete had other plans for the night as the Hawks put the first touchdown on the scoreboard with 9:20 left in the first quarter on a four-yard touchdown run by PJ Cook. Nine minutes later, with just 0:53 left in the first, North Sanpete added their second touchdown of the night on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Allan to Brock Jacobson.
With 11:04 to go in the second quarter, Carbon was called for a hold in the endzone, which by rule gave the Hawks a safety and pushed their lead to 16. On the ensuing kickoff, Brock Jacobson returned the kick to the Carbon 10 yard line before PJ Cook ran it in from 10 yards out to make the score 23-0 with 10:48 left in the second quarter.
Just before the half, North Sanpete quarterback Tyler Allan found Beau Jacobson for a 21 yard touchdown pass to make the score 30-0 at the half.
The Dinos fought in the second half, limiting North Sanpete to just 7 points in the final two quarters. In the fourth quarter, senior quarterback Wyatt Falk found Ashton Ferguson who then pitched the ball back to Mason Vasquez as he ran the ball 70 yards for a Dino touchdown and a well-designed trick play.
Wyatt Falk finished the game 3-6 with 73 yards and a touchdown. Chanse Pendergrass was the leading rusher for the Dinos with 49 yards on 4 carries. Mason Vasquez received the majority of the workload with 9 yards on 13 carries. Falk also had a rush for seven yards. Mason Vasquez had one reception for 70 yards and a touchdown while Jerden Alderson had one catch for 3 yards.
The Carbon defense was able to force two North Sanpete turnovers, one fumble and a turnover on downs.
Next week, the 2-6 Carbon Dinos will play their last home game of the year as the Juab Wasps travel to town. Juab is coming off a 49-28 win over Canyon View Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm and the pre-game show will begin at 6:30 on KRPX 95.3 The Peak.
